Violent hoodlums use weapons, researchers concerned
I am in awe. Prior to this article, I believed this was only a theoretical position. Yet here it is, straight from the BBC:
Doctors' kitchen knives ban call - The researchers say legislation to ban the sale of long pointed knives would be a key step in the fight against violent crime. "The Home Office is looking for ways to reduce knife crime. We suggest that banning the sale of long pointed knives is a sensible and practical measure that would have this effect."
Becasue of course, it's all the knives, don't you see, not the people. I suppose rolling pins are next, to be followed by the opposable thumb? Well, maybe not just yet:
A spokesperson for the Association of Chief Police Officers said: "ACPO supports any move to reduce the number of knife related incidents, however, it is important to consider the practicalities of enforcing such changes."
This is far more gravity than the suggestion deserves, but I suppose it is preferable to a wholehearted endorsement. Given the state of affairs in the UK though, I'd look for one late next year.
