Poster for the Iron Man movie!

Comic-Con: Jon Favreau's IRON MAN poster!!!

My first thought was "Happy birthday to me, happy birthday to me!"

That lasted for about thirty seconds until I realized the awful truth: I have to wait for almost two years now.

But I don't care, we're finally getting an Iron Man movie!

Iron Man - Extremis part 5, Written by Warren Ellis, Illustrated by Adi Granov

So here we are at issue 5. I have mixed feelings about how things turned out.

In all fairness, this is not a bad story. It's not in the realm of Identity Crisis (the best-written bad comic of 2004). If they filmed a movie off of this, I'd be in line opening day. Yes, if they filmed a movie off of any script, I'd be in line opening day, but the point remains. The book does not have bad art. If they used the art as production art for a movie. . .OK, I'd wonder if the projector bulb needed changing, but it's still excellent, if it's not vibrant.

We also get Ellis' take on Iron Man's origins, and Granov's take on the first Iron Man Armor and it's not bad. In fact, I can almost forgive all the parts I didn't like about issue five just for the line "Say hello to the Iron Man, you terrorist scum." Almost. It's just, after much mulling it over, I don't like the idea of Stark rewiring his own brain.

Iron Man - Extremis part 4, Written by Warren Ellis, Illustrated by Adi Granov

Well. here we are once more. This was actually supposed to be a much more detailed review of Iron Man: Extremis part four. However, I neglected to actually bring the comic with me on the trip, so I’m operating off of memory here. I’m sure if I mess something up too badly, someone will complain. The short version: The art is good, the dialog is good. I'm not so sure about the direction the plot is taking however. My major complaint is the page count is a little sparse for a quarterly.

Iron Man - Extremis part 3, Written by Warren Ellis, Illustrated by Adi Granov

Well, after considerable delay, it's finally here. My review I mean. When I set out to review Iron Man issue three, one of the questions I originally planned to examine was "was it worth the wait?" To which I say, of course it was worth the wait, sometimes these things take time, give the artists some space, lets not get all caught up in deadline mania.

Ok, yeah, you got me. I try not chuck too many stones when I'm typing in the greenhouse.

Iron Man Issue 3 - Delayed

|

Well, I'd hoped to have a review of Iron Man issue 3 up by now, but no such luck. The book appears to have been delayed, possibly until April I'm told. I guess I should catch up on Earth's Mightiest Heroes in the interim.

Update: Ok, just finished all six issues currently available. Why isn't this guy writing the Avengers?

Iron Man - Extremis parts 1 and 2, Written by Warren Ellis, Illustrated by Adi Granov

Just wrapped up the first two installments of Warren Ellis and Adi Granov's new Iron Man. Honestly I wasn't exactly looking forward to this. Not because Ellis isn't a good writer. He's generally excellent, but lately, between Avengers Disassembled at Marvel and Identity Crisis at DC, I was starting to get just a little annoyed with comics. Identity Crisis was the best written bad comic I've seen in a while, and I am sick unto death of the "blow the team to smithereens/have a hero go bonkers/kill some characters in a shocking way/start the numbering over" sales boost plot. After watching Marvel mangle the Avengers, I was half expecting a similar treatment for Iron Man.
